About Me

Hi! My name is Audri, and I have been a math teacher since 2002.  I have not always loved math (hard to believe of a math teacher!)....way back in middle school I did not like math.  That is, until I had the greatest math teacher ever, and then everything started clicking and I began to love math.  My goal is to be THAT teacher for my students; that is the reason that I became a math teacher.

In my experience, a classroom that is set up where students can collaborate is the most effective.  Being in a position where they can talk out solutions and bounce ideas off of each other creates a classroom of thinkers.  Placing students in groups of 3 to 4 is my ideal situation.  If you can have tables in your room instead of desks, even better!

I do not believe in being "the sage on the stage." In my opinion, this method of teaching does not work well.  I believe that the person doing the talking is the one doing the learning...the teacher already knows all of the information so the students are the ones that need to be talking to each other.  I like the students to collaborate and figure out things on their own (they are more like to remember it that way) while I walk around and have conversations with each group about the work they are doing and insert purposeful questions.
